Nominees Announced for Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards

Nominees for the 32nd Annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards were announced at the Jessie Nominations Party on Tuesday, May 20 at the Vancouver TheatreSports League Improv Centre on Granville Island.

The awards are divided into three categories: Large Theatre, Small Theatre, and Theatre for Young Audiences. Also included are the Significant Achievement Award and other special awards that comprise the Jessies. 

In the Large Theatre category, productions from nine theatre companies were nominated; from that group four companies garnered the highest number of nominations. Bard on the Beach scored 15 nominations, with Hamlet scoring five of these. Arts Club Theatre Company received a total of 13 nominations, including five for Armstrong’s War. Pacific Theatre received 14 for its productions of The Seafarer and The Foreigner, and Patrick Street Productions received five nominations for Floyd Collins and one for Out of a Dream

In the Small Theatre Category a total of 19 theatre companies were nominated with a total of 22 productions. ITSAZOO Productions’ presentation of Killer Joe took the lead with seven nominations, Hardline Productions also received seven nominations for their productions of Of Mice and Men and Bug, and Realwheels Theatre received six for Whose Life Is It Anyway?

The awards ceremony, produced and directed by Vancouver TheatreSports, will be held at the Commodore Ballroom on June 23, 2014.
