Alliance Winter Workshop: A New Approach To Strategic Planning

UPDATE (December 14): Registration now closed!

Date & Time: January 8, 2013 / 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Venue: Alliance Board Room

Early Registration Required: Because the Emergenetics® online questionnaire must be completed prior to the workshop, the deadline for registration and completion of the questionnaire (which takes about 20 minutes) is Friday, December 14 at noon. There will be no refund for cancellations after that date. Online questionnaire link will be provided on registration.

The Workshop: How often have we been disappointed that Board members didn’t raise the money we assumed they had committed to for the annual fundraising goals? Is the budgeting process based upon wishful thinking on the revenue side (typically aggressive) and conservative assumptions on the cost side? Why do we continue to use the same planning processes, with only slight modifications, and expect radically different results?

These are a few of the questions that non-profit boards of directors and managements are grappling with in today’s uncertain world. This workshop will address the dynamics inhibiting the growth and vitality of the non-profit sector by providing new perspectives on the planning process.

An essential requirement for successful planning is to establish a common understanding of how various stakeholders address problem-solving and communications. The workshop will introduce a tool called Emergenetics®. Each participant will complete an Emergenetics® Profile that will be the basis for understanding their thinking preferences and behavioral attributes. Through responses to 100 questions the profile measures four Thinking Attributes—Analytical, Structural, Social, and Conceptual—and three Behavioral Attributes—Expressiveness, Assertiveness and Flexibility. Emergenetics is a model for how to look at significant business issues like Change Management, Strategic Planning, Objective Setting and more.

We will examine how knowledge of your Emergenetics® Profile impacts group decision-making and the diversity of thinking preferences necessary to ensure creative problem solving.

The workshop will then explore a process of planning that creates a learning organization whereby planning is not a separate entity but is embedded in the DNA of the organization and all of its stakeholders.
