Assistant Carpenter - Part Time Regular Position
Job Information
The Arts Club Theatre Company is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Regular Assistant Stage Carpenter. Hours of employment will be as required, depending on the specific demands of respective productions. The Assistant Stage Carpenter will work under the supervision of the Technical Directors and / or the Stage Carpenter. They will assist with load in and load out; and be part of the running crew when required. The Assistant Carpenter will be asked to fill in for the Stage Carpenter when the Stage Carpenter is absent or unavailable. As a part-time regular position the anticipated cycle for employment is approximately 32 weeks per year.
Specific skills will include, but not be limited to:
•Broad knowledge in theatrical procedures, scenic construction, problem solving, tools and theatre products.
•Operation and maintenance of motorized stage equipment and scenery
•Proficient working knowledge of counter weighted fly systems and the set up, rigging and strike of scenery
•Able to read and understand designer blue prints
•Scenic carpentry skills
Duties will include, but not limited to:
•Assist with load in & load outs
•Advise and assist with ongoing stage & scenery maintenance
•Member of the running crew as required
•Stage & scenery maintenance
Preference will be given for the following:
•Level 1 First Aid certificate
•Pyrotechnic and Firearms certificate
•Valid Driver’s License, able to drive a 5 ton truck
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT:
•At least 2 years experience as a stage carpenter
•Experience as fly man
•Able to work at different heights / climb ladders
The Assistant Stage Carpenter will have excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. The successful candidate must be flexible in their outlook and approach to the position; and be diplomatic in dealing with crews, cast, stage managers and all other staff.
