Real Jobs. Real Family. Real Economy.

Artists and their families

The Arts and Culture Industry in BC generates more than 80,000 jobs and $5.2 billion annually. Less than .05% of the BC budget is invested in the Arts. An investment in the Arts is an investment in our communities.

Ask your elected official to reinstate the 40% cut to our BC Arts Council.

Because artists have families too.

With the recent re-election of the Liberals, it is more important than ever that we help the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts reverse the 40% cut to the BC Arts Council. Here are a few ways you can help:

1. Write a letter: Contact your newly elected representative. Or send your letter to the Premier, Gordon Campbell (The Honourable Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia, Box 9041, Station PROV GOVT, Victoria, BC, Canada, V8W 9E1). Remind him of his stated commitment to the arts and the devastating effects the cuts to the Arts Council will have on your organization or practice. As was written in the budget speech, “The arts help to shape our vision of who we are. They bring to life the concept of culture, and — just as important — bring us together, entertain us, intrigue us, and challenge us intellectually.”

2. Tell your story: Write a letter to the editor in your local paper.

3. Post your picture of your family to our photo wall

4. Join our postcard campaign. Postcard shells come three sizes: 3X5, 4X6, or 5X7. Just follow the simple instructions, print them out, and mail them in.

And the most important thing...

5. Spread the word: Tell your friends, family, Board members and associates. Get them onside. The more noise we make on this issue, the more likely that we will have an effect.
